The 1st feeding ban trial

October 9, 2007

A Florida man is facing trial by jury for violating Orlando’s ban on feeding the homeless in Eola Park. Eric Montañez, 22, was the first to be arrested for feeding a group of more than 25 homeless people in the park in April, thus violating the 2006 ordinance.

On Monday, the day the trial started, Montañez and the group Food Not Bombs violated the ordinance once again by feeding about 100 of his supporters.

His defense will argue that the park is public property and the ordinance violates civil liberties.
